What's Inside The Potting Shed?

Bethan & Sharon welcome you to The Potting Shed...while you are here can we introduce ourselves and have a look around together, this is your space to play, create and grow.

We are Art Psychotherapists with a passion for sharing creativity and getting other therapists and counsellors (of any modality) inspired to work more creatively. We have worked together for several years hosting and facilitating a very wide range of therapy and creative workshops across the East Midlands, for the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT), we have enjoyed this so much we thought it was time to run some workshops independently.

If you want to find out a bit more about us, our experience and the therapy work that we have been involved in have a look at the profile page on this blog....but for now let's us tell you about why we started The Potting Shed and why we hope you will join us there.

The Potting Shed is literally a physical potting shed and part of Lea Green Learning & Development Centre http://leagreen.derbyshire-outdoors.org/ in Lea, Derbyshire. We knew that we wanted a safe and stimulating space to work in and we were overjoyed when we found this lovely space, so much so we thought we'd keep the name! This beautiful space has room to talk, share, make a good old arty mess and is set in lovely grounds and gardens, surrounded by the stunning landscape of the Derbyshire Dales.

We understand, as therapists and counsellors, we can find ourselves stuck in a rut, perhaps a long way from our original training and lacking inspiration to support our client work. What can we do to shift that experience, to make a positive change and evolve our practice? The answer is CREATIVITY; be more creative, think more creatively, play, laugh, explore and embrace the unknown. Inside The Potting Shed you will find a welcoming, safe and creative space, somewhere to come and play, discover new tools to work with your clients and unearth you inner creative spark.

Self-care has become a bit of a buzz word of late and we know that in our profession the risks of vicarious trauma, burn out and compassion fatigue are real and need our positive attention. Creativity and creative thinking is know to support emotional wellbeing, reduce stress and offer practitioners more comprehensive ways to remain resilient through in challenging roles (1).

In 2018 we will be running a number of creative retreats (see 3 Ways To Become A More Creative Practitioner post) where we will host small group creative explorations....come and join us.
